Discover the Irish Canyons of Moab
The Irish Canyons are widely considered the premier canyoneering experience we offer and are often the highlight of our guests’ time in southern Utah. Located about an hour and a half from Moab in the remote North Wash region, this trip requires a bit more travel, but the quality of the canyons makes the drive well worth it. The area is home to some of the most beautiful slot canyon terrain in the Southwest, carved into the same Navajo sandstone that forms the famous Antelope Canyon in Arizona.
After a short hike across slickrock and desert terrain, the route drops into a spectacular system of narrow slot canyons where towering sandstone walls close-in overhead. As the canyon twists and turns through the landscape, smooth flowing sandstone formations and sculpted chambers create an immersive environment that feels worlds away from the open desert above.
Throughout the descent you’ll encounter several rappels—generally ranging from around 30 to 90 feet—along with fun downclimbs, tight passages, and winding narrows that make each section of the canyon feel like a new discovery. The slots here are some of the most beautifully sculpted in Utah, with smooth curves and intricate textures carved by centuries of flash floods.
One of the things that makes the Irish Canyons so special is the versatility of the terrain. The area contains several different canyon routes that can be combined and customized depending on group ability, weather conditions, and how adventurous the group wants the day to be. This flexibility allows our guides to choose the best possible route and create a unique experience for every group.
The Irish Canyons are perfect for adventurous beginners as well as experienced canyoneers looking for a full-value canyon day. With incredible slot canyon scenery, fun rappels, and endless twists and turns through sculpted sandstone corridors, it’s easy to see why this trip has become our most popular and memorable adventure.
