Learn Ghosting in the Hog Canyons, Moab
The Hog Canyons offer an exciting step deeper into the world of canyoneering. Hidden in a rugged desert landscape, these narrow slot canyons provide a more challenging and engaging adventure than our introductory routes.
Rather than following a single fixed path, each trip explores one of four unique canyons in the Hog system. Each canyon has its own personality, but all share the same ingredients: twisting sandstone corridors, creative obstacles, and just enough technical challenge to keep things exciting.
As you work your way through the canyon you’ll encounter a mix of rappels, downclimbs, and narrow passages that require teamwork and problem-solving. Guides will introduce techniques used by experienced canyoneers, showing how ropes, natural anchors, and clever movement through the rock allow us to descend these beautiful places safely.
One of the most fascinating aspects of these canyons is the emphasis on traveling through them with minimal impact, often referred to as “Ghosting”. Many descents rely on temporary anchor systems and careful rope work rather than permanent hardware, turning the canyon into a puzzle that rewards creativity and teamwork.
For guests who have already tried canyoneering and are ready for something a little more adventurous, the Hog Canyons deliver an unforgettable experience. The scenery becomes tighter, the movement more engaging, and the sense of exploration even stronger.
