Climb and Canyoneer at Cable Arch in Moab!
Cable Arch offers a truly unique half‑day adventure that blends elements of rock climbing, scrambling, and canyoneering into one exciting desert experience. Located about 20 minutes from downtown Moab, this route ascends an exposed sandstone fin with panoramic views of the surrounding red rock landscape before delivering fun and varied rappels back to the canyon floor.
After a brief approach hike across open desert terrain, the adventure begins with a short scramble up sandstone ledges to reach the base of Cable Arch, a striking natural arch perched above the canyon below. From here you’ll traverse the sandstone fin and gain exposure as you climb toward the top, with incredible views of the Moab valley, La Sal Mountains, Arches National Park and distant canyons.
Once at the top, the rope work begins. Your first descent can be chosen to match your comfort level, with options for a shorter 30‑foot rappel or a more impressive drop of around 120 feet that sends you down the rock face with Cable Arch looming overhead. From there you’ll continue down a sandy wash toward a second rappel of roughly 60 feet into a narrow fissure in the rock that resembles a small slot canyon, adding another technical element to the descent.
The combination of climbing, scrambling, and rappelling makes Cable Arch feel like a true desert obstacle course — one that feels accessible to beginners and families but still exciting for anyone who enjoys movement on rock. If some in your group prefer to stay at the base of the arch and take in the views, they’re welcome to do so while others continue the rope work. With sweeping scenery, varied rope techniques, and a memorable rappel finish, Cable Arch is one of the most unique adventures in the Moab area.
